Academic magazine review: National Geographic, November 2012
The National Geographic magazine never ceases to amaze me with the captivating pictures used in the articles. Each picture tells a story, and it grabs my attention with ease, leaving me wanting to know more about the picture. For example, a close up picture of red ants holding onto each other floating on water instantly drew my eyes to the article, making me wonder what the ants were doing, how they did it, and why they were doing it. Once my eyes read the words, "survival rafting", my interest was immediately sparked and I moved on to read the article. Another example I found which grabbed my attention is a picture of a brain frozen in a block of ice, which of course made me want to read the article. So, as you can see, the National Geographic magazine makes full use of their pictures to draw the reader to the article. As compared to an article that was full of words but had no picture to aid in telling the story, the articles in the National Geographic magazine are much more interesting as there are thought-provoking pictures which makes the reader want to read the article and find out more about the picture. I've always loved reading National Geographic magazine, even as kid I subscribed to the National Geographic KIDS magazine. The reason for this is, the magazine is really fascinating and makes learning new facts about the world that I never knew enjoyable. I would recommend this magazine to readers who love learning through visuals, and all readers in general, as I'm sure the intriguing stories will amaze you, just like how it has always amazed me.

Musical Review: Miso
Miso, a Korean musical, is an unspoken performance showcasing all the different types of traditional Korean arts like music, dancing and drumming, all incorporated into a love story. The musical begins with an interactive session with the audience where audience members are picked to try out the spinning plates with the assistance of the professionals. Afterwards, the performance begins with a slideshow of the story so that the audience is able to understand the story with ease. Miso is a musical filled with humor, yet there are scenes that resulted in quite a number of my friends and I tearing up. Overall, it was a wonderful musical which had my full attention throughout, as it was truly captivating. I would recommend this musical to teenagers and adults who love romance and comedy.
Museum Review: Trick Eye Museum, Santorini Seoul
The Trick Eye Museum in Santorini Seoul is a must to visit when you are in Seoul. The art gallery in the museum is filled with paintings created using a technique known as the 'trompe l'oeil', which makes 2D paintings appear to be 3-dimensional. This allows the visitors to have fun and interact with the paintings such that it looks like they are a part of the paintings. While I was at the museum, I saw many interesting paintings, including a painting by Vincent Van Gogh. My choir members and I thoroughly enjoyed posing with the many paintings. My personal favourite was the hall of mirrors, where I learned that they made use of mirrors to create the illusion of endless passageways. I would definitely recommend families and friends to visit the museum and have fun posing and helping one another take photographs with the original paintings.

Movie Review: Hotel Transylvania
Hotel Transylvania is great movie to watch with your family.
The story is about Dracula, who tries to protect his beloved daughter, Mavis, from humans, whom
he thought were horrible, ruthless beings. However, things change when a human,
Jonathan, chances upon the hotel they stayed at. This movie certainly taught me
that people can change, and Dracula and the other monsters learned this towards
the end of the movie when the humans treated them with such kindness and
hospitality as compared to the past, when the humans killed Dracula’s wife and
the monsters weren’t accepted by the humans. Hotel Transylvania was a hilarious
movie, and I definitely recommend this movie to comedy-lovers and families to
watch together.
